Coping with Anxiety Around Setting Boundaries
Setting boundaries can trigger anxiety, especially if you have previously been criticized or dismissed for expressing your needs. Many women feel nervous or guilty about asserting themselves, fearing conflict or rejection.
Coping with this anxiety involves understanding that it is a normal response to prior experiences. Practicing grounding techniques, such as slow breathing or checking in with your body, can help manage immediate feelings of fear. Writing out your needs and rehearsing boundary-setting conversations may also provide clarity and confidence.
Over time, consistently honoring your boundaries strengthens your sense of self and reduces anxiety. Therapy can provide a supportive environment to explore these fears, practice strategies, and gain the confidence to assert your needs safely.
If you would like guidance on managing anxiety around boundaries, I offer online counselling across Ontario and in-person sessions in Burlington. You can book a consultation through my Jane link: https://guidingyou.janeapp.com.
