Healing from Covert Narcissistic Abuse

Covert narcissistic abuse can be more difficult to recognize than overt abuse because it is subtle and manipulative. Women may feel anxious, confused, or constantly “walking on eggshells” around the abuser. It can involve passive-aggressive behaviors, emotional neglect, and subtle criticism that gradually undermines confidence and self-worth.

Healing requires acknowledging the abuse, processing trauma, and rebuilding self-compassion. Strategies include documenting experiences to identify patterns, practicing self-validation, and connecting with supportive communities. Therapy offers guidance in understanding the abuse, developing coping strategies, and regaining control over your emotional life.

Over time, integrating mindfulness, self-care, and assertive communication can help women regain autonomy and rebuild healthy, respectful relationships. Healing from covert narcissistic abuse is a gradual process, but with support, recovery is possible.

If you want support in healing from covert narcissistic abuse, I offer online counselling across Ontario and in-person sessions in Burlington. Book a session here: https://guidingyou.janeapp.com.
